League of Legends

League of Legends Champions Korea has long shunned the transition to the franchise model, but in April this year there was official information about the introduction of the franchise in the most important LoL games in South Korea. We’ve even heard rumors about organizations interested in joining the league since last year.

Until now, however, we could only guess how much a place in the refreshed LCK will cost, but now we have the first reports shedding a little more light on this issue.

Organizations currently competing in the LCK will have to pay at least $8.2 million to be included in the franchise and remain in the league for years to come. As for new clubs that we haven’t seen in Korean games so far, the initial amount in their case will range from 10 to 12.3 million dollars. Let us remind you that these prices are not particularly excessive, after all, for the place in the LCS or LEC, the organizations allegedly paid larger sums than those mentioned above.

The final list of participants in the LCK franchise will be known in September this year, but we can not be sure about the number of teams that we will be watching starting with the 2021 season. At the moment there are a total of ten formations in LCK, but only a few of them seem to have established enough in the Korean championship so as not to shiver for your league existence.

It would be hard to imagine that organizations with such financial resources as T1, Gen.G Esports or DragonX will not be able to offer Riot Games the required entrance fee for entering the franchise. However, one should also look at the fact that 25 organizations have reportedly expressed interest in joining LCK at the end of May — including NRG Esports, eUnited, FaZe Clan, and others.

LCK has decided to switch to the franchise model as the last of the four largest LoL leagues in the world. By moving to a closed system, Korean games will thus move away from the promotional tournament, because the second league will be replaced by struggles intended only for the academy of teams from LCK. In addition, not only the LCK authorities and the organizations themselves but also players who earn at least 48.8 USD thousand a year will benefit from the franchise.
