After only a dozen or so hours, the reports on the future of Patrick “es3tag” Hansen were confirmed. The 24-year-old Dane, who has been with Astralis for the last few months, will join Cloud9 after DreamHack Open Fall 2020 is over.
“Everything happened incredibly fast. I am proud to represent Astralis […], I won my first major title here and I am really enjoying working with these guys. Over the past six months, I have developed both as a person and as a player and I owe a lot to the organization over the past six months,” admitted es3tag. “However, Cloud9 made me an offer that I really had to consider. I like the ideas behind this project and I believe that a team that will be one of the best in the coming years is being created here.”
“On the one hand, I am sad to leave Astralis and all the people here, but I look forward to the challenges that await me at Cloud9. I would like to thank the fans for the huge support they have shown me. Astralis and the fans here will remain deep in my heart forever,” he added.
Hansen signed up with Astralis in March this year, but his transfer did not take effect until July after the expiry of the contract with Heroic. His arrival coincided with the resignation of Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth and Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, so es3tag quickly jumped into the top five and despite fears from some experts showed that he is able to compete on such a high level.
This is especially true of the recently concluded 12th season of ESL Pro League Season 12, which ended with his team winning the championship — the 24-year-old had a significant share in this success.
In this situation, the lineup of Cloud9 is as follows:
- Alex “ALEX” McMeekin
- William “mezii” Merriman
- Özgür “woxic” Eker
- Ricky “floppy” Kemera
- Patrick “es3tag” Hansen
- Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunović – coach
